Moving on from my B5 S4 avant. Thinking 3.2>2.0. Anyone else done the same (B5S4 -> B7 A4)?

If so, do you have any advice? Was the power difference too significant? My S was lightly modded (exhaust, SS, no chip), and I am wondering if I'll really miss the power if I go with the 2.0, which I would most likely not chip. I like the 3.2 for the stock power/torque.
I am reluctant to get rid of the S4, but it's time, and I like the look of the B7, and the use of the 3.2FSI.
The B7S4 is out due to its very poor gas mileage. Thanks.

I wouldn't do the 2.0t unless you're going to chip.
The 2.0t stock seemed to slow to me when compared with my A6 2.7t, even comparing a manual 2.0t to auto 2.7t. I haven't driven the auto 2.0t, but I imagine that's even worse.
I think a chipped 2.0t would be a lot harder to pass up. 241hp/292lb-ft with APR's chip would make it as least as quick as your S4 I'd think.

I'd go with the 3.2
I went from an A6 2.7T to a B7 3.2. If you go with the 2.0T, you absolutely will miss the power, unless you chip. Even then, it's going to be a different experience than the 3.2.
I just couldn't bring myself to go with a 2.0T, coming from the 2.7T... the 3.2 however, gives the same level of HP and torque, but with the smoothness of an NA engine. Plus, the SOUND of the 3.2 is soooooo much more pleasurable than the 2.0T.
After two weeks I have absolutely no regrets.

Going to the dealer next week to test drive. I think that's going to be the answer.
I loved the 2.8VR6 in my old GTI, and while the 2.7T is a sweet engine, I have a weakness for NA torque.

The 2.7T was definitely smoother, quieter and quicker. The 2.0T however, feels surprisingly fast, especially when the turbo boost kicks in. It's rougher and doesn't have as good a sound as the bigger engine. On the other hand gas mileage is outstanding and the initial cost of the vehicle is considerably less. It's an impressive little engine and I have no regrets going with it.
The 3.2 is a good choice too, of course. It's the smoothness and torque of the 3.2 versus the relative roughness, economy, and cost advantage of the 2.0T. In everyday driving, neither engine is a bad choice.

Make sure the dealer has a 6MT 3.2 in stock or it will be a difficult comparison.
I had to test drive a 2.0T 6MT and a 3.2 with tip. Originally I thought I liked the 2.0T better but realized it was the 6MT that I was enjoying. My previous cars were 2.8 A4s, 2.7T allroad & a TL. (all manuals) I ended up ordering the 3.2 A4 for its smooth power. The 2.0T was just a little too loud for my taste based on my previous cars.

Just did a switch from b5 s4 sedan to b7 a4 avant 3.2
not regretting it one bit. Sure it's not as quick and torquey, but it's not a shock. My engine was stock btw, but I had stoptech and H&R coilovers. Got the sport suspension with the A4, looks better and feels pretty good.
