Newbie considering an A4 Avant
I'm a long-time lurker posting for the first time. I'm considering an A4 Avant 2.0T for our next car (currently driving a 2002 Saab 9-3). I was sent the following quote by a local dealer, and I woudl appreciate the board's input as to whether this is something that I should jump on:
"This is a 2.0t Avant (quattro and tiptronic). It is Black/Black with the heated front seats, the dvd navigation system, the convenience package, bluetooth and the premium package.
The MSRP is $39,210
The Sale price is $37,500
Your monthly payment including tax is $535.47
The residual is .57
The money factor is .00082
Your total out of pocket is $1,884.97
This consist of your first months payment, your tax, your doc fee, your security deposit and the acquisition fee.
I also quoted you including the Audi Care, this means that all of your maintenance will be taken car of through out your 4 year 50,000 mile warranty.
36 months works out the best so above is a quote for 36 months 12,000 miles per year."
Thanks in advance.

I want to tell you that's a good deal but.....
You know that leasing is just a waste of your money. You build no equity and have restriction to what you can do with the car that you pay that much money to drive. I would reconsider and look into purchasing an Audi, even if you have to sacrifice more money or less amenities. You can always add them later(on most).

Go lease!
I would consider that a fair deal on a lease. you could probably talk down a little bit more, theres about another 1300 dollars there above the invoice, and most dealers for instock units should go to atleast 500 above invoice, but thats a good start.
I feel otherwise about financing. the a4 is a great car, and for that little money down, your in and out of the car in 3 years. to finance it, and get that payment, you would need 10x's that money down to get a finance for 60 months..
I recommend leasing! try negiotiating a little bit more though. i think you can find another 500 atleast in the deal, and try waiting till the end of the month
good luck.

Re: I want to tell you that's a good deal but.....
Since when does buying any car build equity? With rare exception, all vehicles depreciate in value. You're not "building" equity with a car puchase, you're trying to salvage whatever you can out of it.
My advise on the buy/lease option is this: If it's the right car for you, if you can give it a good home with proper care and feeding, and you won't lust after something else in 36 months, then buy your car. Modify it into the perfect car if that's your idea of a good time.
Otherwise, a lease may be best for you.

Depends on your personal circumstances
If you have a business that allows you to write off the lease as an expense then its a no brainer. If you intend to keep the car longer than 36 mo. buying is usually better
