Default phone system (bluetooth)

According to Audi's (2006) manual, I don't have to have bluetooth phone in order to use the in-car phone system. Does anyone have experience with the new phone system? The dealer is clueless! And what is the meaning of the phone cradle if the Bluetooth is wireless?

Default Re: phone system (bluetooth)

I dont have it personnally but im assuming that would mean that you could use the phone directory to store numbers and such. as far as fully using the capabilities with the bluetooth, that requires the necessary phone hardware.

Default You need a BT phone if you don't buy the Audi phone. Think of the car as a giant headset.

It picks up the phonebook from your phone and display names and # above the trip comp. I have a SE W600 and it pairs with the car as soon as I insert the key.

Default Two choices: either a bluetooth phone, or you can purchase a phone cradle for the armrest...

If you look in your armrest, there are contacts for a cradle that mounts in there. The cradle is phone specific, they only make cradles for certain phones, and it costs upwards of $300. the advantage of using the cradle is that the phone gets charged and it uses the sharkfin antenna which will increase your cell coverage range. If you happen to already have a phone that they make a cradle for, it might be worth it, I like the idea of having it charge and using the car's antenna, but if you don't, you're probably better off just getting a bluetooth phone, as opposed to a phone and the cradle. I just got an accessories catalog in the mail, and the only phones it lists as having cradles for, are the Motorola V60s or V60x (old), or an Ericsson T600, which I've also never heard of and Sony's website doesn't even list anymore. Of course you could buy the V60 for Audi for Verizon or Sprint for $648....

Default More phones are available now.

This is the list from the audiusa site http://www.audiusa.com/common/images/bluetooth.pdf, it's dated 9/23/05. I have Verizon and the Motorola E815 works and it will fit in the cradle for the V710.

Default Actually you don't need the "phone hardware"...

I have a 2006 A4 Avant with Bluetooth, Navigation, etc. and a Treo 650. The phone favorites, etc. carried forward to the car phone system which I can view on the Nav screen. It's a sweet setup!

Default It's awesome (more)

Works exceptionally well with the Razr, better than my old Sony Ericsson. On the phone Bt is always on and anytime I get near the car it "blings" at me (the service guy loved that). The stereo will AUTOMATICALLY pick up calls from the handset when you get near the car and also return them to the headset when you turn it off. The volume is controlled through the radio and I can also easily scroll through my entire phone book in the dash computer as well as use the voice command to dial numbers.

Simply put, awesome.
