Potential '06 Purchase Question
I'm looking at buying an '06 2.0 Quattro with 63,000 miles. The owner just had it to dealer and they replaced the timing belt tensor but not the belt because they said it was in good condition. What is the recommended mileage for changing the timing belt on this model? Also, is there anything else major, other than the normal stuff, that should have been replaced by now?

Nothing else major that I can think of. I would be worried about having the tensioner changed and not the belt though. It is my understanding that to get to the tensioner then the belt would be easy to access as well, so for the cheap cost of the belt I have no idea why they would not replace it.
Do you know if they changed the water pump etc? or simply just the tensioner? The interval is 110,000 per Audi, but most owners change it before then.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. The owner is calling me at noon so I'll see if he can explain it better but he doesn't sound like much of a gear head at all. I noticed that another member had the cam chain brake at 120K, is that a common problem?

Ask the seller for service records. Nothing is cheap at the dealer, especially if out of warranty. 2.0 is a timing belt and 3.2 has a timing chain. My 3.2 2006 has 68k miles and is very reliable. The issues pertaining to 2.0 are pretty well covered here. Good luck with your purchase.
