Power steering mystery?

Power steering mystery?
Hi everyone,
I need help with my power steering. I lost it after doing donuts on a wet and slippery road with shot tires. After the donuts my steering became very stiff under 2000 rpm. But it would get soft if I press the gas over 2000 rpm. I went to an Audi mechanic and he said that the steering pump went bad. After replacing the steering pump it got even worse. At the beginning when I picked the car the steering was normal until the car warmed up and then it got hard as a rock. There was no fluctuations based on the rpm this time. For my surprise next morning when I started the car the steering was still hard. I drove back to the mechanic and told him that the pump he installed was probably bad. He put a second pump in and flushed the power steering lines, tank and filled it up with new OEM power steering fluid. BUt nothing new happened. When I started the car it was soft like nothing happened until it got warm again and then it became hard. Since then there are no changes in the behavior of the car. The mechanic tells me that I need a new steering rack. But mine doesn't have any leaks or accidents. Is this possible, the rack to be the cause of the problem? Can anybody help here? I would really appreciate it.

The mechanic who did change the pump twice flushed the system before installing the second pump. My concern is is it definitely the rack. I don't want to change it for nothing. I want to be 100 % sure, cause it is not cheap.
