Q on fog lights mod: how to cut power first?
I'm thinking about the fogs w/parking lights mod, but I noticed that the light switch is powered even when the car is off and no key in the ignition. For those of you that did this mod, did you pull a fuse to kill power to the switch prior to operating on it? If so, which fuse(s) did you pull?
Another question: one poster in the referenced thread said that you don't need to VAG the car at all to make this mod work, you'll just have the amber lights on with the fogs in the parking light setting. Can anyone confirm?

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4b6/msgs/333541.phtml</a

You are correct
If you don't VAG the car after doing the above mod, you can run the amber parking lights and dim city lights with the fogs only - no low beams. If you VAG the car, you can run the dim city lights and fogs only - no low beams.

Good info, thanks - what about the power?
Can anyone comment on the safest practical setup for working with this wiring? I think it's hot even when the ignition is off; is there a fuse I can pull?
For those of you that made the mod, what did you do to prep for the wiring work?
I know that disconnecting the battery is probably the safest, but I'm guessing there are some electronics that have to be reset if this happens.

I pulled the switch
I didn't disconnect the battery, although that's probably good practice. It was pretty tight to get in there and I had to pull the switch from the plug to have room to work.

Just finished - it works!
I wanted to be super-clean on this and pull the #2 wire out of the connector and use a new wire to patch. But, it is darn tight in that space and I couldn't get the wire free, so I ended up just cutting it and stuffing a new section of wire between #1 and #2 on the back of the connector. It works, so I'm calling it good.
