Default Quick update on my brake cooling kit...

As you may know I procured myself a B7 RS4 motor under tray or belly pan. I found out while reading the RS4 specs that they had included NACA vents/ducts for cooling the brakes. I was in the process of starting my project when I found out about this so I ordered the part(s) from Germany. When I got the part(s) it became apparent that the B7 RS4 tray was bigger. There were two options opened to us. Trim the B7 RS4 tray to match the B6 A4 tray size or cut out the NACA vents and blend them onto the B6 A4 tray. We decide to go with the first option because it meant we could always do option two if the modified B7 RS4 tray did not fit after the initial trimming. Also we wanted to keep the option of using two additional parts that make up the RS4 kit and we felt this was the best way to get the use of them.

This is what the original B7 RS4 under tray looks like (non modified)...

Here's the reason behind keeping the original B7 RS4 tray even if we have to trim it... Air ducts.

Another angle.

As of now we are still in the fitting stages. The big disappointment for me is when I saw the RS4 in England last week. I was hoping to complete the purchases for this cooling kit because I was sure there were additional parts to be bought. I figured since they have an under tray with NACA vents and attached to this tray were air ducts and the way these were terminated I figured there must be some other ducts available. Ducts that would channel the air from the tray to the calipers/rotors. Well go figure Audi again, no folks no such luck. Audi decided to take the air from those small ducts and dump it overboard through the inner fender liner into the wheel well, great! How the Hell is this air going to get to the caliper or rotor to cool them down? I'm sure just the turbulence from the wheels/tires spinning is enough to deflect the air coming out of the ducts, rendering them useless. Oh well back to the drawing board for me.
