Default Should I change CAM timing chain?

Hi,

I just bought 2005 Audi A4 2.0 T CVT and I really like the car. Looking at it service book, I found that its timing belt was replaced at 100k kms. Additionally, I noticed that its cam chain is making it sound like a diesel car and probably need to change the tensioner as well. My question is that when i change CAM timing tensioner is it mandatory to change chain as well? I recall they are set in for life?

Front timing belt, water pump, and timing chain and tensioner at the back of engine replacement quote given to me by AUDI is 3600 AUD including parts. No way i will go with them. Please do mention a good online parts store to order stuff.
Thanks

The chain is inexpensive but really the chain needs to be removed to replace the tensioner if done correctly so best to do it while you're in there. It does mean buying a few bits and bobs, tools etc to do that but it's worth it IMHO. The chains do stretch and that's part of the diesel noise, the lower portion of the chain slaps on a metal lip at the bottom of the tensioner when it stretches.
For me in the UK I can do it chain, tensioner, tools, gaskets, oil rings for cam chain cover etc for £100 UK.

If you need a list of tools, parts etc let me know, this job is on my list of things to be done to my car asap.

All of the required parts/tools etc can be found on ebay in the UK but not sure about Australia.

Apparently you can tell if the chain is stretched by checking the timing advance at idle if you have access to diagnostics or Torque app.
IIRC if it goes beyond -3 degrees at idle the chain is stretched and should be replaced.
There's a video on youtube showing this on the Deutsch Auto Parts (DAP) channel.
