Tire pressure question for a long cruise
I was told that I should run my tires at higher pressure levels to help with tire wear and keep them running a bit cooler as well.
I currently run my 19's at 40psi cold and when I checked them when they were hot the fronts were at 46psi and the rears 44psi.
The Goodyear F1's are rated to 51psi so would it be a good idea to pump my tires to 44psi for my trip to SoCal? Was I given bad advice?
TIA for any information/opinions.

Fuel mileage increases due to overinflation are minimal.
If "under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires", then it stands to reason that increasing the pressure 4PSI would theoretically only get you an extra 1.6% better gas mileage. (So from 30MPG to 30.5MPG)However I'm sure the negative effects of underinflation are greater than any possible positive effects of overinflation. I'd just keep them inflated to the proper pressure that gives you the most even wear.
