Default Transmission..

Well today going to work I got locked out of 1st gear, yes clutch was in it just wouldnt happen. I decided to shift in to 2nd gear and then into 1st not happening. Finally it went in. The rest of the ride it was not fun working with 1st gear. Is anyone else having issues with there transmission? I live in NJ and its around 15-25* here...

Default i have problems with 2nd in the cold...

i live in the lehigh valley (southeast pennsylvania) and it was about 5 degrees this morning when i left for work. but even when the temp is in the 30's or below, i have been noticing my transmission is extremely stiff and its tough going into 1st or 2nd gears. i talked to my dealer about it last week and he said there is nothing wrong, just that it needs to warm up. so after about 5-10 minutes of sitting there warming up, and then 10 minutes of driving, everything operates just fine for the rest of the day.

The same issue here. Matter of fact, it is the most annoying thing on my 05.5 2.0TQ. It seems like getting worse as the temperature drops. I used to have this problem only a few times up until winter(I bought mine on August). Now we are having colder than usual winter here in Pacific North West, I enconter this problem more often... My solution to this? I start putting gear ahead of time and some times when the wheels are still rolling. Yes it's frustrating struggling with gear in front of green light with pack of rush hour commuters behind me...

I dont think it has to do with the transmission being cold in fact the syncros are not lining up right for 1st gear. I tried the double clutch method (no longer used becuase of synchros) and still nothing.

Good to know I am not the only one. BTW my car has 625 miles...

Just got my A4 2.0TQM two days ago, but here in Minnesota, where it is always cold, I haven't been thrilled with the slide into 1st either. When I test drove the car, the dealer even told me before I started that first would be a little stiff until it warms up. Every time I have driven the car it has been notchy for the first 10 mins, and then it is fine. Feels like the clutch isn' completely released (not saying that is the problem, just that that is what it "feels" like - though I suppose a hydraulic clutch is going to exhibit a different range of motion in really cold temps).

No issues with second. And, definitely no problem being absolutely locked out (though I could see how it might happen if it were REALLY cold - my garage is insulated and is normally about 30-40 degress when I leave in the morning.

Still love the car - 6 inches of snow this morning - NO PROBLEM.
