Trunk floor panel latch mystery?

Trunk floor panel latch mystery?
The latch handle on the trunk floor panel on my girlfriend's 2008 A4 Q 2.0T seems odd.
It has a little curved tongue that seems unnecessary, and blocks the handle from being fully flush when released. The tongue looks like it should fold under, but it doesn't move at all.
Any ideas?

By the presence of that small spring, I would think it should fold under as well. Is there something you need to press on the underside in order to get it to fold?

It turns out that the folding tab had been forced past its normal position, which should be at 90 degrees from the main latch handle plane when open. When the handle closes, the little tab folds.
I spent 30 minutes wrestling with that tiny spring after disassembling. (Tip: put a thread loop through a tiny spring when working with it - makes retrieval much easier, and the thread can be removed after install). I ended up installing it in the same 180 degree wrong position, with the pin through the one side of the tab, and the spring, and then forcing it into the right position. Then, driving the pin home.
My best advice is to either force the tab back into position, or remove it (which will lose the function of having it hold up the carper panel when you need to access the spare). If you insist on a full restoration, drive the pin partway out so it still support the spring, then force the tab into position.

The "tongue" is so you can latch, or hang, the handle on the inner lip of the trunk lid where the weatherstripping is. To hold the whole cover up so you dont have to take it out of the trunk. The one in my A4 folds under. Maybe yours is broken, but it should fold under, i believe.

Well... This is embarassing. Not knowing that my replies were listed from newest at the top i did not read carefully enough to know that all of this had been answered. I assumed the newest at the bottom and made a knucklehead of myself. Way to waste my first post... my apologies.
