Default Value of A4 for lease takover

hey guys,

i'm new to the audi world, but was wondering if you guys could help me out and point me to some old threads.

My dad has a 2006 A4 2.0T Quattro that is on lease. He wants to sell it or do a lease takeover.

Car is black in perfect condition with Tan interior, 11.8k miles, 6 speed auto, and located in san jose.

KBB says the car is worth around 29k and that is the pay off as well.

Can anyone please point me in the direction of how lease takeovers work with audi? I'm only familiar with BMW's myself

Link to my M3 if anyone is interested (not for sale anymore):

Default They work the same way for any brand. Find an interested buyer and call your leasing company. BUT

Your dad's car will be hard to sell for 29K. Its wholesale value is 25K so keep that in mind. Good luck!

Default As far as I know, you cannot "officially" transfer a lease...

You can buy out the car and then sell the car. You will also have to pay tax on the buy out price so make sure you keep that in mind as well.

Default Not necessarily...

I sold my last leased Audi and the buyer had to pay the tax on the sales price when it was registered. What you're talking about is buying the car from Audi and then reselling it - and in that case you would have to pay the tax and then the buyer pay the tax (which would be stupid). You can sell the car to a 3rd party and have the title transferred directly just as you would if you were trading the leased car in early on a new car.

Audi also allows you to transfer your lease to another party, but you remain on the account and you remain responsible for the account. The person has to fill out a credit app with Audi and get approved.

John, when I called Audi they advised that they would only sell my leased vehicle to me forcing me to pay sales tax even if I was really selling to a third party. Any ideas how to get them to let me sell direct? The sales tax makes me way upside down as it adds $1500 to the cost. I also called my state tax department and they said no way around the tax on a double sale.

Default The final buyer doing the actual buy out from Audi would definitely make better sense

than to buy it yourself and then reselling it since as you said, sales tax would be paid twice.

If Audi allows you to transfer your lease to another person yet you remain on the account and is still responsible for the lease, I don't see how this can be considered a true transfer.
