Went from an A4 to an A6. Was not happy. Back to A4.

My 1998 A4 was the best car ever. In fact it still is, which is fortunate because the 2005 A5 3.2 I got has been the worst car ever. One module after another goes bad and it has a relentless carbon buildup issue. Looking at a 2006 2.0t 6mt today. Are there any crazy problems on B7s that I need to be aware of?

Cam follower, HPFP are the main areas to watch for - review the B7 forum for lots of info.

Our '06 2.0T 6MT Avant has been great. It has some miles on it now, but not too bad considering it is almost 10 years old. In 2014 I was cursing the car because it was paid off and we ended up dumping about $6,000 into it to deal with myriad items that come due around that time - probably about 80k miles on the clock then. Since then, not a problem, except a fuel tank level sensor that I still need to get fixed. I can't remember all the stuff we fixed a couple years ago but it included engine mounts, struts/coilovers, and some wear and tear stuff like brakes and tires that all came due the same year.

Ten years in and it is still a great car. Drives great and is super practical in the wagon format. I also feel like I can see out of the car much better than our newer cars, so visibility seems good and that is huge with all the crazy drivers around SoCal. I can't bring myself to replace it - there are a few cool hatches on the road these days but the B7s still look and perform and in my opinion can be a great value. Good luck with your purchase.
