What type of gas does an A4 2.0T Quattro require?
Unlike my M3 that needs premium, do these B7s require premium? Can we just use plus or regular? Will it hurt our turbos?

Usually with any kind of boost or forced induction.....
you want to use a higher octane gas so your car doesn't ping/knock/detonate. I'm not sure if the Audi computer will look for this and retard the timing and adjust the fuel/air mixture curve accordingly if you have a lower octane gas, but normally from my own personal experience, if you put 87 octane into a car with a turbo or supercharger, you will most likely hear some knocking when you're under heavy load (or light, depending on the situation) when you're giving it gas.

Re: Usually with any kind of boost or forced induction.....
the sticker in the door lid says premium (91) is recommended., not required. If it were required, it would say required (as every other car I have ever seen that needed it, says) If you read the manual, it says 91 is recommended for maximum performance.
The car however runs just fine on 87. I've been running 87 and 93 back and forth - have not noticed any declination in overall performance, nor have I noticed any change in miles required between fill ups (making 87 a better overall "buy"). Once chipped, you need to run super.
I have not stuidied FSI, but I assume the insane fuel pressures they run allow for high compression and boost

Premium...
It calculates to $3.40 per tank or roughly $200 a year over regular, so its not that much difference in price for better fuel economy and better performance. All luxury car brands request or require premium, and even my GTi 1.8T requests premium.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/95022/ocatane3.jpg"></center><p>The owners manual recommends 91AKI, but clearly states that the car will operate safely on 87AKI.
The ECU will adjust the timing to prevent detonation.
Audi would NEVER authorize the use of a lower grade fuel in the manual if there was ANY danger of detonation. The last thing they'd want is a bunch of folks needing new engines in a new model car..... especially under warranty.
If you chose to run 87AKI, you'll lose some performance. You gas milage will probably also go down, negating some of the "benefit" of the cheaper fuel grade.
So, if you want to run anything from 87AKI on up, go for it.
I look at it this way.......
It's a $35,000+ car. If I can't afford to run 91 or better, I shouldn't have bought it.

thanks bob
As I said, I;ve been bouncigng back and forth between 93 and 87 since getting my car 4 weeks ago. Mileage between the 2 in my mixed driving (local and highway) has been identical - within 10 miles per tank. Performance wise, i could not tell a difference either, though it might be different in warmer climates (cold here in NY!). Car is getting chipped soon though, so the days of 87 are to be behind me!
