Default 2010 Model Year good or bad ?

Hello -

I am looking at what might be my 5th used Audi purchase and wanted some advice on reliability and potential issues with the 2010 model year - I am looking at an A4 Quattro wagon with about 60K miles. It is super clean and is a one owner car - it is for sale at an Audi dealer. I have not had much experience at all with this generation of A4 and have heard some issues can occur with oil consumption... any other trouble spots with these 2.0T cars? When I had an 04 A4 it was a constant stream of problems with cracked hoses under the hood and other minor issues that were quite expensive to fix! Any advice is appreciated..

THANKS

Could go either way. I'd much prefer a 2013 or later avant, but they only come in allroad, and with electric steering. Many of the engine problems of the CAEB motor of the B8.0 years (2009-2012) were resolved with the CPMA/CPMB motor of the B8.5 years (2013-2016). 2010 also still had the 6 speed transmission; 2011 and later have the 8 speed. 2011 and later also have HD radio, if that concerns you.

Unfortunately, with it past it's original warranty end, I don't think you can get the CPO warranty extension even though it's at an Audi dealership. You've got about 10k miles left on the turbo warranty extension, but I also think they capped it at 7 years. You'll certainly need to inquire about the version of camshafts chain tensioner. And as it's turning out, the chain itself eventually needs replacement due to stretch. Intake manifold could break if it's still original, injectors could be bad, but both of those I think have 125k mile warranty extensions; be sure to check. Oil screen on the camshafts bridge could be dislodged.

But you couldn't sell me a CAEB motor unless it came with a signed commitment to fix it free of charge if it developed the oil consumption issue at under 200k miles and at any vehicle age. (How many miles you do a year? I do 20k, so 60k to 200k is only 7 seven years, and I don't buy cars as disposable objects). That said, if you're the modder type, run it till it breaks, then swap it to a CPMB motor.
