Default Seal Leaking Oil - Necessary to Remove Transmission?

I recently took my 2012 A4 (still under warranty) to a dealer for an unscheduled oil change. I was told that they discovered that a seal is leaking oil (which seal I don't know), and that it will be necessary to remove the transmission to get at the seal. The work will be covered by the warranty. My question is: how is possible that Audi designed an engine that requires removal of the transmission to get at a leaky seal?

Sounds like the rear main seal. Have them check out the PCV unit. If that fails it will cause engine to get pressure and blow the rear main seal.
