Default A4/A5 Feedback

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member here and was hoping to get some feedback or advice. I'm thinking of trading in later this year for a 2010-2012 A4 or A5 Quattro with automatic and navigation.

Two of my biggest pet peeves are: 1) squeaks and rattles; and 2) unrefined transmission performance.

Can you give me a sense for how solid these are and if the automatic shifts smoothly? Is the 4-cylinder pretty refined? I've gotten used to a V6. What are some of the weaknesses of these cars I should be aware of?

I'd be trading from a 2010 Acura TL, which has one of the most unrefined automatic transmissions in history.

Thanks for the feedback!

Mike

I bought a 2011 A4 quattro sport pack with nav and an 8-speed auto new around 4 years ago. The 8-speed is nearly as smooth in D as my 2003 A4 Cabriolet was with its CVT. The action in D is extremely refined. Shifting in Sport with the 8-speed is faster and less smooth, but is by no means rough or lacking refinement.
My car has no squeaks or rattles.
After 8 years with the Audi 3.0 6-cylinder Cabriolet, I don't consider the 4-cyl turbo to either feel or sound refined. Period. But it does deliver outstanding performance.

The 8-speed automatic, which appeared in 2011, is very smooth and quiet. The 6-speed automatic, which was in the A4 prior to 2011, is neither smooth or quiet.

The newer the model year, the less squeaks and rattles. The B8 has been much better than previous generation models, which had a reputation for rattles.

The 2.0T has plenty of power and is very suitable for this vehicle - as long as you get one that does not burn oil. Many of them do, but some do not. Do your homework carefully. If the carfax says oil consumption test performed, go on to the next car until you find one that seems to be clean.
