A4Snowbird

Hi guys,

I just purchased a 2014 A4 Premium Plus with the MMI Multimedia system. I was looking at a model with the B&O system but the car was in much worse shape whereas the one without was practically brand new still with just over 10,000 miles. I am wondering if anyone has attempted to upgrade the stock system to the B&O. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile but I am very religious about it and work in the HiFi industry on the development side, so techy answers are highly appreciated. I am okay with the processor/stock radio unit and obviously don't want to loose my other features so I would prefer to do a full upgrade of the drivers, especially the subwoofer. I'm not particularly impressed with the stock drivers at this level of the system, mids tend to be muddled and crappy. I also prefer to DSP the living hell out of my systems to make them as digitally correct as possible and am looking at implementing a MiniDSP C-DSP 8x12 in order to measure and develop per speaker correction filters and a room mode. However I would first like to see what sort of improvement I can get out of upgrading the speakers.

So first question:
What is the full tech details on my current package?
I honestly haven't played that much with it yet but it seems to be 3 drivers in the dash, tweeters in the a-pillars, drivers in the doors and then the woofer and I think also drivers in the rear deck above the trunk.

Second question:
Can I upgrade to the B&O System and what does that entail?
I imagine drivers and possibly new pre-amps. Can I do that myself?

Third question:
Has anyone gone through and re-done the entire system? I'd love it if you could share some details of your upgrade and maybe pics of the process.

I don't know that I would upgrade to the Audi B&O. If you're swapping speakers and amp(s) and sub, might as well use good aftermarket stuff.

Don't know how you can upgrade to a B&O w/14 spks. I have B&O in my 2014 A4 & it was one of the requirements for me to buy a CPO car. Just bought 2014 A4 Quattro Premium Plus w/ B&O w/33,000mi. Great car. Great sound.
I am an audio person. Strongly recommend buying an Audi w/ B&O if that is what you want.

I found myself in the same situation and ended up recently buying a 2015 A4 without the B&O. I spoke with a number of Audi specialists as well as researched the web. Everyone seems to be in agreement and recommend buying a car with B&O if it's important to you. The MMI and speakers as they come are so integrated with the car that there is no way to upgrade to B&O after the fact.
