Default Audi A4 AMI USB Support

Hello everyone,

I just got a 2010 Audi A4 which I really love.

I have the Audi Music Interface in my glove box and I have a USB Cable for it.

When I plug a USB in it (64GB Formatted in FAT32) it is not showing up in AMI.

I have read somewhere that this only works if you have MMI, which I don't.
At least I don't have the control **** so I guess I don't have MMI.

My question is can I have USB support somehow or not ?

Also, there is a SD card slot, but is that going to work without MMI?

Thank you !

If you have the built in interface in your glocebox then it should work.

I have always been confused what folks consider the "MMI"

My B&O system has the orange interface screen above the radio controls. I do not have any NAV or BU camera. The cable interface and SD slot work fine for me.

Yes, I have the AMI interface in the glove box.

Here is the case...

When I connect a USB flash drive to the AMI to USB cable nothing happens. In music sources AMI shows up as empty.
If I connect a phone cable to the AMI to USB cable then I can see my phone in AMI.
That means that the AMI cable is working properly.
This also means that if my phone is showing up, my USB should also pop up.

Again, the usb is a 64GB USB formatted in FAT32 with around 100 songs on it.

As far as MMI goes, when my car starts the display shows AUDI Information System (something like that) and not MMI.
So I guess I don't have MMI.

Sounds like yours is the same as mine. I was not aware that the AMI-USB cable would support a USB drive. I use a 32Gb SD card in the SD slot and that works great. I use bluetooth for handsfree and I use an AMI-headphone jack plugged directly into my phone to play music off of it.

Wasn't aware FAT32 went past 32GB. Are you sure it's not FATex or some extension that might be confusing the AMI?
I suggest a counter test of a 32GB (or smaller ) thumb drive formatted FAT32 by Windows and see if the car reads that fine.

You'll know you have MMI because of all the buttons and rotary on the center console.
Is this a US A4?

Audi concert radio with SIRIUS® Satellite Radio Audi concert radio
features the Audi Sound System with 180 watts of power and ten total
speakers, including two in each door, a subwoofer and a center fill speaker.
It also offers a CD player, auxiliary input and an SD® card slot with MP3
capability. The Radio Data System [RDS] on the color screen displays
several types of FM radio information, as well as SIRIUS® Satellite Radio
information. And the Graduated Audio Level Adjustment [GALA] ensures
optimal volume levels as cabin noise increases with speed.

Apparently, you had to have a Premium Plus to get AMI:

Audi music interface The Audi music interface offers intelligent
integration with the iPod®. Any iPod® Generation 4 and higher [iPod®,
iPod® nano, iPod® photo] may be connected through the glove box,
and full iPod® controls are available through the MMI® screen.

It looks like even the Premium has the MMI interface, it's the Prestige and the nav upgrade that get the MMI based Navigation plus.

Regardless, my bet is AMI doens't like your supersized USB drive. Another thread mentioned someone that had 41GB of songs on a SD card. So you should be able to use that slot too.

You can format more than 32GB in FAT32, but you can't format it using the built in Windows format tool.

There are other tools that can format more than 32GB.

Anyway, today I got a 16GB SD card and I am happy to let you know that it is working perfectly !

Thank you a lot guys

The curiosity was more around if AMI has a problem with the larger cluster size necessary for a 64GB FAT32 volume. Or maybe there was some issue with that USB drive.
I assume an SD card in the SD slot would also be FAT32, and another thread referenced using a SD card with 40something GB on it. But maybe the interface to the SD slot and the AMI differs sufficiently.
