Hi Guys,

Let me start off with, I want a car with Luxury, Speed, and AWD. (In order)

I have narrowed it down to the B8 A4 and B6/7 S4

I'm leaning towards an A4 2009/10 with a ECU/Exhaust as they would be about the same price as a B6/7 S4.

Is there any other reason other then the V8 to get the older S4?

How safe are these chips?

I moved from a B6 S4 to a B8.

No regrets at all. Mine was pushing around 390-395 bhp but I simply don't miss the power. I do miss the Milltek assisted noise a lot though.
Aside from that the B8 handles better, has much more compliant suspension (regardless if it's Adaptive or not), etc etc.

It's not the same type of car but I'm very happy with my choice.

What I don't get is how you can get a 2009 A4 for B6 S4 money. Maybe it's different there but the B6's are a lot cheaper than that in the UK.

Chips are as safe as the person who wrote the map and the company you get to install it.

Hmmm...I guess I'm in a somewhat similar situation. Currently in a stock 2003 A4 Avant 1.8T which has been very good to me over the years. However, within the next 2 months, I will be getting either a new A4 Avant or S4. Two very different cars at different price points and yet I keep flip flopping on the decision. At this point I honestly have no idea which of these I will ultimately end up with.

Used 2006 S4 V8 = $27k (70,000 KM)
Used 2009 A4 2.0T = 29-30k + ECU chip (<20,000km)

I wan't something I can drive for a while as well... How reliable are the electronics and engine on the S4?

How much nicer is the inside of the newer A4's? Is the S4 power THAT much better?
