B8 fitment of older wheels question for the wheel experts

When I trade my 2001 A6 2.7t for my B8 A4 with 18" Prestige pkg wheels , I will have 17" O.Z. wheel takeoffs from my A6 that are 17x8", 5x112 bolt pattern, 35mm offset. I'd like to use the these for winter use if possible.

I checked tire sizes and the current tires on the A6 17" 234/45-17 are within 1.5% circumference of the new 245/40-18's so tire size shouldn't be a big issue. I believe the new A4 wheels use the same 5x112 bolt pattern.

What I don't know is if the wheels will not fit due to different offset and/or a hub size difference.

Did some searching and the only thing I found was mention of a different hub size. Does anyone know the offset of the new A4 or if some other factor like a new hub size will put me out of luck?

Blake P 08-07-2008 07:41 AM

You should be most concerned with the center bore...

Bolt pattern is the same, offset is similar and will still work with your wheels, but the center bore went from 57.1mm to 66.56mm so unless your OZ wheels have a hub ring system similar to BBS where different applications use different hub rings, you're SOL.

AofC_RR 08-07-2008 09:28 AM

Yeah I posted on this already, won't fit

The hubs are different on the B8 chassis cars. I was told at the S5 launch that all old wheels will not fit the new chassis.

Quattrings 08-07-2008 11:27 AM

You'll want less of an offset as well. 35mm ET will have more of a tucked look.

Width etc being similar, you'll want a 25-30 ET to fill the fenders better. On the S5, the offset is about 20mm too far in for what I prefer.

snagitseven 08-07-2008 11:38 AM

Not even with hub rings as suggested above?

JeffPGH 08-07-2008 11:59 AM

Are BBS center bore 66.56mm by default?

JeffPGH 08-07-2008 12:01 PM

Hub rings make the hole smaller...if your OZs don't have them, you are SOL.

If they do, take them out and measure.

OZ wheels from Tire Rack do come with hubcentric rings for Audi fitment, but...

...I ahve no idea what the raw centerbore for the OZ wheel is.

I am looking at a B8 A4 in a few years, and my Volk wheels have a centerbore larger than the B8 hub, so I am very happy!!!

Just spoke to Tirerack..

The OZ wheels I have on the A6 have same bolt pattern and the hub size is 75mm bore ringed down to 57.1mm. He told me they carry rings at $5 ea that go from 75mm down to 66.5mm.

The only thing we are not positive about is the offset on the new A4? If too much different either way, I'll be SOL like you said. Anyone sure about the offset on the B8 A4? It could be different than the 2008 A5 (he told me 35mm offset is what they spec for the A5). Puzzling based on what Quattrings said in his post above about his S5.

snagitseven 08-07-2008 12:39 PM

According to Tirerack, the A5 is spec'd at 35mm offset..

Does your S5 have a different offset than the A5? If it's the same, with an 8" width wheel I'm puzzled why it would be too tucked in.
Also, it's possible the A4 B8 might carry a different offset than the A5 or S5. Possible?

snagitseven 08-07-2008 12:43 PM

Found out from Tirerack the OZ's I have are 75mm bore so with new hub rings..

they will fit the new 66.5mm hub. Still uncertain about offset on the A4 though. Tirerack tells me it needs to be pretty close to 35mm requirement on 8" wheels which match my OZs.

Quattrings 08-07-2008 01:28 PM

Yes A5/S5 are same. Looking at stock pics of the A5/S5. Stock offset looks horrible.

I prefer a flush fitment so 20mm (15mm) are necessary to remedy that. I did originally read that the Coupe was slightly wider than the sedan but I cant positively recall. From pics that I have seen, the A4 looks to be similar.

Blake P 08-07-2008 10:07 PM

No, they are larger and require a hub ring

Blake P 08-07-2008 10:12 PM

They will fit just fine...

Both MTM and ABT are using 19x8.5 ET35 to sit flush with the fenders. You will have an extra 6mm of clearance on both sides with 17x8 ET35. Since TireRack confirmed that they use hub rings, you're good to go!

Quattrings 08-07-2008 10:42 PM

Not sure what ABT is thinking (they list 50 ET??) but MTM is using spacers on 35 ET.

MTM essentially drops the offset to 20 ET from 35 ET.

MTM bimoto Felge in der Dimension 8,5 x 19 ET 35 LK 5x112 incl. 15mm Adapterkit Design

Re: They will fit just fine...

Blake, please excuse my ignorance here..are the stock wheels made by MTM or ABT per your post or are you using these 19x8.5 as an example?
The stock wheels I've ordered with the Prestige are the 18" 5 spoke - they are 8" wide, correct? Am I still ok with the OZ 17x8 @ 35mm offset with a +6mm clearance? (I wish I knew the actual offset of the stock 18" 5 spoke wheels - I found an offset comparison calculator on line - input the old and new width/offset and it tells you inside and outside mm pluses/minuses in mm).

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp</a

Quattrings 08-08-2008 08:15 AM

He's correct, they will fit. It's just a matter if they will "look" the way that you want.

On this larger body, anything less than 18s looks very small proportionally to the size of the car. Also Audi thankfully left us a lot of room in the fenderwells to play with. If you use the A4 configurator on AudiUSA.com and select the Premium package with the 17" wheels - you'll see what I mean.

I can get a bit obsessive with wheel fitment, so my opinion might be slightly tainted ;)

Blake P 08-08-2008 09:44 AM

I agree that 17's will look tiny. 20's will probably look best, but I'm going with 19's to be safe.

Blake P 08-08-2008 09:45 AM

I confirmed with MTM that they're starting with ET50, then 15mm spacers bring it to ET35

snagitseven 08-08-2008 12:58 PM

I got it. It will work but look kinda undersized. I'm going to use the OZ's for..

snow tires so am less concerned about the look than the grip during the NE winters. I'd rather grunge up my paid for 17" OZ's then the new 18's sliding around in the muck.

Thanks to both of you guys for helping me determine that I won't have to replace $1.1K of wheels!

snagitseven 08-08-2008 02:20 PM

I don't dare go beyond 18" with the crummy roads here in MA.

Already turned one 17" into a metal pretzel thanks to a pothole as big as a mineshaft. Ate the tire too.
