Sony Ericsson W880i
I use an unlocked Sony Ericsson W880i and all the available bluetooth functions work flawlessly.
I just have to leave my bluetooth on, get in the car and don't ever have to take my phone out of my pocket..except for texts >_<
Making calls, receiving calls, checking voicemail etc all work fine.

Re: My S5 behaves the same way with my 3G phone. Sometimes I get a loud noise when making calls.
It's not gone on the B8. I just traded in my 07 A6 and it had it too. It was much louder on the 6 too.

Talked to both Apple and Audi...
And they both basically politely told me to shove off. Each points the finger at the other and make no guarantees of functionality.
Bluetooth enabled devices depend on using profiles to determine what services each has and whether they can ineteract. The iPhone supports Hands Free Profile 1.0. HFP is one of about two dozen basic bluetooth profiles and I'm assuming that most bluetooth-enabled cars must also be using HFP.
In general, HFP provides:
"Hands-Free Profile
A typical example of hands-free devices is a car Hands-free unit. It acts as a
wireless audio input/output device of a cellar phone and provides some remote control functions.
Features:
* Scalable according to different AT command sets
* Voice recognition dialer
* Full voice control for picking up or hanging off the phone
* Audio volume control
* Audio connection transfer
* Support Park mode control"
The above supports the notion that audio in general should be played back (it doesn't support stereo audio however) if the car is selected as the audio destination, which the iPhone clearly does.
Has anyone used their iPhone with another car or bluetooth device and gotten voicemail audio playback?

Workaround for this...
From Apple support docs:
Check voicemail from another phone
Call your own phone number. As your greeting plays, enter *, enter your voicemail password followed by #, then follow the voice instructions.
This is a standard call and not Visual Voicemail but is something you can program as a contact in your iPhone or in your Audi directory. This will activate the BT in the Audi as with any other call and let you check voicemail, just without the visual part. But at least it works.
P.S. I just tested this myself and if you dial your own phone number from with your iPhone it doesn't require any prompts (no * or passcode), it goes straight into your voicemail. You can just press 1 for messages.

I'll try that out...have you done the 2.2.1 firmware?
the 2.2.1 firmware causes the vm app to sporadically play the 1st 5 secs of a message but then it goes to dead air. I'm going to call Apple again and what they say now.
