My kid has an iphone 4 and it was not a problem pairing with the 2009 A4. In fact the dealer did it in the parking lot when we accepted the car. If you go into the phone screen in the MMI what do you get. If you are having this much of a problem I suspect either the BT module is bad or you don't have BT.

I stopped by the dealership...and they had no clue. Pretty much said my car didn't come with the TEL/talk option. The salesman said it did have it. Next stop salesman and I will unleash my pissed wife. It's going to be fun to watch as she tears him a new one.

If that's the case I wouldn't be talking to the salesman but to the head of the dealership. I don't think you will get any satisfaction because you bought a "used car" as is. To install BT is a horrendous and costly job. Seems all you have is a he said deal and unless it is in writing you got nothing. The only other option is to get something like the "Motorola roadster" which is a super BT solution.
