Dying Battery HELP!
Hey All - Just bought a 2013 A4 2.0 Quattro. Owned a week, and this am the battery was dead car wouldnt start. Brought battery to oreilys who said it had a bad cell. Put a new $180 battery in, car fired right up no problem. Took her for a very fun drive.
I thought Id try seeing if there was any parastic draw, so removed negative cable and performed amp testing. It seems to short everytime I touch the multi meter to the battery terminal, awakeing the car locks in the truck, and giving me a reading of 4.6.
I did click the trunk lock so that the lights went off.
Am I missing something here? Had black lead in COM, red lead in 10A. Then the 10A setting reads 4.6 and 200m setting reads 46.5.
Are there lights or sensors that could still be awake when Im trying this? Does the car need longer than 1 minute to drain all the power? Is 4.6 normal? Is there any easier way to test this?
Thank you all in advance I appreciate it!

I would 1st charge the battery to 100%. Just because it's new doesn't mean it is at full charge. Put it on a 10amp charger or better and charge it up. Leave the negative cable off. Then you need to code the battery into the cars system. This will allow the battery monitoring system to function correctly . Usually a dealer or someone with the computer system can input this. After all is done then go into the MMI to check the battery status. By not coding the battery it will not charge correctly and might damage some electrical components.

Well I threw a new battery in and shes running great. That cannot be true can it? that you HAVE to code the new battery? You cant just put a new one in? Thats the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard

It's not your father's charging system anymore. Just call the dealer and ask the service folks if you need to recode the new battery. See what they say.

Do you "have" to code a Mercedes GL350 Bluetec after changing the air filters? No. The adaptations will eventually track to where they should be. Will it operate more efficiently sooner if you did? Yes. Is it worth a trip to the dealership and an hour labor? That's a personal call.
