Default No vibration here

My car is as smooth as silk on the highway. It had a vibration issue once, but that was attributed to out-of-round Continental DWS tires.

My car does use oil, however. About a quart every 1,800 to 2k miles. Dealer says that is within specs and won't do anything about it. At about $10 a quart of Castrol Synthetic, it can add up.

Thanks for the great replies, I'm still a few months out from making a purchase but I'm strongly considering a 2011 A4 Quattro Prestige S-Line after reading through all of the comments. I'm thinking that the vibration was most likely unique to this car as most people say their cars ride smoothly. I was concerned because the salesman said that this was common in A4s and audis in general.

Great car. The 8-speed models are wonderful. I would exercise great caution because of your height. Take your time deciding. It is a somewhat small car. Maybe retrofit a custom driver's seat. I can't comment on headroom.

My 2011 rides very smooth at high speeds and uses 1 quart of oil every 4500 miles with none of the phase fixes. My best advice is make sure you get the sport package (sport seats). My car has the titanium sports package with all the chrome blacked out and 19" 5 spoke speed line wheels. Gives the car a totally different look you may want to check out.

I have a 2011 as well, Prestige Avant and S-line. No vibration whatsoever, smooth as silk on the highway. I think the vibration problem was only on the 2009 model where there was a TSB or recall for the A-arms. But as for any car to keep in mind, if you hit a big bump or pothole and dent the inside barrel of your rim, this could cause a vibration as well.

Mine eats a quart of oil about every 4-5000 miles, I was told that's very minimal for a turbocharged engine, so perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones. If you DIY your own oil changes, make sure the oil is VW/Audi 502.00 spec oil, I found they are either in 5w-40 or 0w-40 European formula, and never in the typical 5w-30 or 10w-30. The A4 is relatively easy to change oil, the hardest part is removing the dozen or so screws that hold the bottom splash cover. I've been taking it to the dealer the last few times for the oil changes because the difference in cost for them to change it rather than me doing it myself is very minimal.

I haven't had any major issues with the car since I purchased it new in 2011. The one annoying thing I didn't like at first, was the delay or lag from the gas pedal, I don't believe it was just turbo lag, so mostly a programming issue. Mine was reflashed when I took it in to the dealer for an oil change and it got better, but by no means instantaneous from foot to throttle. Also, at first startup in the morning, the idle could be a little shaky for the first 10-20 seconds, but as soon as you drive off, it smooths out. Other than that, it's been very reliable, just as reliable as my previous Hondas and Toyotas I had in the past...and this Audi was my first purchase of a German brand.

Mileage around town is not that great, maybe mid to high teens typically, it varies depending how much stop-and-go. But on the highway, I usually get anywhere from 25-28, and on long trips I've recorded as high as 33 mpg. Bear in mind this is with the wider S-line 19" wheels and max summer performance tires, which is detrimental in getting good mpg's.

Here's an Order Guide I found, hope this helps in your search on the options:

Best of luck in your search!

I have a 2009 and it uses only about 1/2 a quart of oil between oil changes, but I change the oil every 6 months...

It does not have any vibration issues.

I am 6'4" and I have a lot of headroom and the steering does tilt and telescope. I used to have a B5 and it was also roomy enough. I tried the new A3 because the reports were saying that it was as roomy as the B5, but it is not...

The Q3 is also roomy enough in the front, I might consider it for my next car if they ever decide to sell it with a proper motor and transmission !
