Hello and welcome to the club. I won't go into too much details but I'll tell you this:

1- Drive your car as you normally would (don't hold back) AFTER your engine is properly warmed up.
2- My Blackstone oil analysis indicated that holding oil over 5-7K is not advisable. It's your call, but if you want this car to last you 150K then changing oil every 5K is a cheap insurance. I experimented with some oils and found Liqui-Moly 0w-40 and Motul 5w-40 to be the best for our cars. Get yourself a Pella 6000 and do your own oil changes in a suit and a tie
3- Your car is definitely clear coated, every car is, since 1970 something.
4- Clear bra (especially 3M) came a long way and is the best investment for your front end.
5- Collinite 845 is an excellent wax, I use it on my cars and it lasts me for 4-6 months. Make sure to shake the bottle really well for a few minutes before applying the wax. I use warm water and a sheepskin mitt during car washes to keep that wax on the paint, otherwise almost any soap will strip the wax off your paint. Wash your car at least once a month.

Other than that enjoy your car!

Default Assuming you're in the USA:

They don't enable the Long Life service interval in the USA. You're only going to see a Fixed interval at 10,000 miles on the oil.

The oil quality standard is referred to as "502.00". (The 504.00 oils aren't recommend in the USA do to a reaction with our ethanol-tainted gasoline.)

I'm guessing these are European service intervals because I only found them on Audi's UK website and they did not appear on Audi's USA site. The USA site has a link to Audi-approved oils and it does not even list the VW 503 as a catagory. Following the link from the Audi USA site the VW 504 approved oils include the Mobil 1 0W-40 that seems to be a popular choice here.

After searching the web I finally found a list of VW 503 oils for the Longlife Service and none of them look very familiar. I'm guessing those oils are not readily available in the US. The UK Audi site also said that the Longlife service contemplated an oil change approximately every 19,000 miles as determined by the onboard computer. I can't imagine going that long between oil changes no matter what kind of oil I used.

A couple of questions. Should we ignore the Longlife Service mentioned in the manual and just use the VW 504 standard oils (i.e. Mobil 1 0W-40) and change the oil every 10k miles or so? I plan to ask the dealer, but does anyone know exactly what kind of oil the dealers use in the US? Based on what I've read here I probably will have to top off the oil in between changes.
Mobil 1 0W40 (as found in the USA) meets 502.00 and many other Euro OE specs, does not meet 504.00. I'd describe it as the common denominator for many engines today, even for the domestics. This oil is easily found at W*mart, AAP, AZ, NAPA, etc. I think it's $6.97 nowadays at W*mart.

Forget about all the other stuff you're viewing in the Owner's Manual, it doesn't pertain to the USA.

FWIW, Castrol's 0W30 meets the 503.01 quality standard. Sometimes found at AutoZone. I think the R8 gets a unique oil and of course the diesels must use the 504/507 oils, but not the other engines...they're all 502.00 for the USA.

Enjoy the new car, Hou, and wecome aboard!
