That said, there can sometimes be various dealer incentives for meeting monthly/annual sales goals, advertising reimbursements, etc. These are not individual car based so it would be difficult if not impossible to ascertain the amounts per car as they would vary month to month.
Your best bet is to use invoice as a base amount. As you probably already know, dealer costs are available from several sources. Also, check to see what, if any, customer incentives are available. I have no idea what Land rover might offer.
The salesman, the managers, and the F&I wonk have no idea how much. Usually only one or two people at the dealer know how much the car costs the dealer. An A4 is usually $2,600 below invoice. He can sell calls all day at this price and still make money.
Don't listen to his nonsense about feeding his family. They will be fine.

Truecar.com found me a $2000 cash rebate deal for NOT using Audi financing in 2009. The sales guy never brought it up, and was annoyed that I wanted all $2000 of it taken off my car.
Also... friends cut your grass, and watch your kid. Ask the sales guy if he'll do that for you.
They do a pre-negotiation thing with some dealers. It's generally a great price on the car, if you buy it from that dealer in a specific time frame, etc.
I generally go to the dealer and haggle, annoy them a little. And at the end , if I'm not able to get to the truecar price, then I whip out the pre-negotiated price document. Either way I win... and if I get to **** off a few people at the dealer, even better for me.
