Also in the car was a ami cable to 3.5mm plug which works fine but would like to be able to change tracks using steering wheel controls.

I've tried everything now. Can't get it to work. Got playlist sorted as above with Playlist creator & set out as far as I can see correctly. My Manual does does say Mp3 1,2 or 2.5 but the programme I used to convert audio says mpeg layer 3 rather than just mp3. So I don't know where to go from here now. Getting very frustrated with it now.

Any suggestions on an audio convertor that will work. I am using sandisk usb sticks.

Since the system doesn't even show you the files, I don't think that the playlist is the problem. But to rule that out, try without playlist. As I said, you don't need a playlist. I put the _.mp3 files in subfolders (1 level) and the folders show and the files play. It could be that something in your system is broken. I would try SD card, and another make of USB stick.

Delete the ".." at the beginning of each line that precedes the backslash in the path name

I just looked at your playlist again and there are a lot of things wrong with it. Every line that is preceded by a "#" sign is considered a comment and simply ignored. There should be a line that follows the comment with the complete path name for the song on your media. Look at the playlist excerpt below as an example. I have each song placed inside of a folder with the artist and album title. You're using wma files instead of mp3 files. While they may play in theory, I have only had luck playing actual mp3 or flac files.

FYI - mp3 = mpeg-1 audio layer 3

Here's an example of how to set up your playlist:

#EXTM3U - This is just the lead-in comment indicating that this is a playlist. This is generated by the Playlist Creator software
#EXTINF:745,Zombie - 1 - Zombie - This indicates the artist and first track title. I'm not sure what the 745 signifies at the beginning of the statement, but it may indicate the time in seconds of the track or something along those lines. This is generated by the Playlist Creator software
\0365. Fela Kuti - Zombie (1976)\01 - Zombie.mp3 - This is the path to the first track. The 365 is just a number I assigned to the album folder and is irrelevant
#EXTINF:776,Zombie - 2 - Mister Follow Follow- This indicates the artist and second track title.
\0365. Fela Kuti - Zombie (1976)\02 - Mister Follow Follow.mp3 - This is the path to the second track.
#EXTINF:804,Zombie - 3 - Observation Is No Crime
\0365. Fela Kuti - Zombie (1976)\03 - Observation Is No Crime.mp3
#EXTINF:885,Zombie - 4 - Mistake
\0365. Fela Kuti - Zombie (1976)\04 - Mistake.mp3
#EXTINF:281,Legalize It - 1 - Legalize It
\0366. Peter Tosh - Legalize It (1976)\1. Peter Tosh - Legalize It.mp3

Some of this info is probably pulled from the metadata associated with the music files. Make sure the tracks have been tagged properly with the artist name, album title, track title, and track number. Even though I indicated that some lines are generated by the Playlist Creator software, all of the info shown is generated by the program. The only changes you should have to make to the playlist after it gets created is to change the path for each of the songs by doing a Find and Replace in Wordpad. The SD card reader will be assigned a drive letter just like any other drive on your PC so the path names will reflect the drive assigned to the card reader as follows:

N:\0366. Peter Tosh - Legalize It (1976)\1. Peter Tosh - Legalize It.mp3

Just do a Find and Replace to look for N: and just leave the Replace field blank. Then do a Replace All. The finished playlist will look like example above. Don't forget to save it before you close it. You can edit it right on the SD card if you like.
