Default O2 sensor for '09 2.0T, service guide & audi parts don't match car

car - US 2009 A4 2.0T quattro 6AT Avant Prestige

Appears I've gotten the P0299 several thousand miles after having the pistons replaced for oil consumption (apparently a very common scenario after fixing the oil consumption). Along with that, the engine is showing P2243, P0130, and P0030, which all relate to the bank 1 sensor 1 (which is the front/pre-cat one, from what I can find) O2 sensor.

That's easy enough to fix on my own while I argue with Audi and the dealer over the turbo bs. So I buy the part indicated by parts.audiusa.com, 1K0998262L. Once I start looking at the engine though, the front sensor is not going to where the service manual says it should go for a CAEB engine, and it doesn't look like the replacement part either.

Pic of the roughly 1 foot gray cable in the car attached. According to the service manual, there is a pic for a second engine code, CPMA, that matches where this gray cable goes. But that's the E85 engine they only mated to the 8spd auto in later years, from what I've been able to find. And checking parts web site, the replacement front O2 sensor for CPMA engines is the same 1K0998262L.

Anyone familiar with the short cable and whether that's just a superceded part? Is the newer cable, even though it's much longer than necessary, still effectively the same? The connector is not exactly the same shaped, but it appears it would fit with the other part.

Thanks,
Scott

That is the correct part number. The spare part fits a number of vehicles and has a longer cable. The part comes with a picture sheet showing how to dress the longer cable on the replacement part to fit the 09 A4 CAEB.

You simply make a loop with the excess cable and secure it with the ty-wraps supplied. There are a number of additional plastic mounts in the kit that are not used on the B8 Quattro.

The connector fits perfect in the existing mount.

Default Worked like a champ

Much appreciated.

Went ahead and opened up the new sensor and installed it. I ended up tie wrapping the extra to a tube above rather than looping it. After a few 15 mile trips, the MIL has gone out. Hopefully, that will continue and the P0299 will stay resolved too. So much for the dealership's request for $2250 to replace the turbo and $365 to replace the sensor.

Bought the part for $190ish and borrowed the necessary socket from AutoZone. Already owned a torque wrench. Took me longer since it was new to me and I elected to remove the airbox, but that particular sensor requires no removal of anything in the engine bay and would be out and replaced in under 10 minutes for those experienced.

Besides half the cost, doing it myself let me discover there's a screen on the front of the air tunnel going to the air box. Which apparently had never been cleaned. The lower half was so blacked out, I thought it was part of the plastic molding at first. Things are running much better now that the engine can actually get some air.

Thanks,
Scott
