oil change

YES. The oil in the 8 speed ZF unit does need to be changed [again do NOT listen to Audi] and the interval is around 75,000Kms. More if it still shifts smooth and fast, less if not. This is an expensive service. Do not take it on yourself if you are asking whether it should be done. Get a tech that's done it before to help. And don't be surprised with the quoted price...

The fluid should be changed, ZF says 100km or 62k mi. It's not that bad of an ordeal, call around and get quotes, I was quoted between 200-400 for labor if I supplied my own parts. You can buy your own fluid made by ZF (p/n S67109031201) which is about half the cost of the same fluid with the Audi stamp on the bottle and buy your own filter/gasket/bolt kit. ZF makes the transmission and their site has the procedure for changing the filter, just know you need to take the transmission bracket and x-brace off and support the transmission. And you need to read the trans temp to do the filling procedure, which you can do with a normal OBD II scanner (or at least the one I had) or with a vag-com specific scanner. You should also reset the adaptation with VCDS (or similar) once you are done. You'll want ~7-9 liters of fluid to do the change, then drain and fill a few times if you want to clear out more of the old fluid.

When I tried to print the above info (tranny oil change) most posts on this page had some kind of AUDI over print that essentially made it impossible to read. Any ideas why--how to correct?
