Replace spark plugs when?
I seem to remember Audi revising the A4 2.0T's scheduled maintenance to include replacing the spark plugs a lot sooner than originally specified. I think at one time, Audi recommended that the plugs be changed at higher mileage, then a couple years ago I read on here that Audi changed their recommendation so that the plugs would be changed sooner and within the pre-paid Audi Care service plan (i.e. within the first 45k miles). If you go to AudiUSA's website, you can view the current scheduled maintenance program for your vehicle at this link.
When I view the recommended plug changing intervals for the 2009 A4, Audi now says the following:
But then it also says the following:
So how often should the spark plugs be replaced in the B8 A4 2.0T? Is the above saying 35K miles, 75k miles, and 115k miles?
Can anyone else confirm which scheduled maintenance or mileage (35k, 55k, etc.) they changed their spark plugs for the first time?
Has anyone had their spark plug replacement paid for while under Audi Care?
When I view the recommended plug changing intervals for the 2009 A4, Audi now says the following:
Spark Plugs
– replace at 35,000 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first. Then, every 40,000 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first.
– replace at 55,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.
Then, every 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.
– replace at 75,000 miles
– replace at 35,000 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first. Then, every 40,000 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first.
– replace at 55,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.
Then, every 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.
– replace at 75,000 miles

A5 2.0L TFSI, TTS, A3 3.2L,
TT 3.2L and A8 6.0L only
l 55K only: except A3 3.2L,

I was confused with the information on the Audi website, so I called on the phone, and Miss Audi said to check with my dealer.
The dealer has an over promoted lot porter who declared that the 75,000 mi service was plug time. The chart is confusing because it is on an x-y grid. For the A4 2.0T TFSI 35K mi for the first change, then every 40K mi.
At 70,000 I had a check engine light and missing on accelration. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed coil packs. Skeptical, I took the car home and tested the coil packs. They were all good, except on one the harness side connector had the locking clip broken off, and the secondary side of all the coil packs were covered in engine sealant. The dealer had the head off at 45K to change the pistons, and lathered up a little too heavily with the sealant.
Fixing the connector fixed the check engine light, and changing the plugs stopped the missing. I used a little solvent to remove all the sealant from the coil packs, and they work fine.
The correct Bosch plugs are expensive at $15 ea from auto zone and the rebate company cheats you out of the $2 per plug rebate.
The plugs were a nice toasty brown, but were severely erroded away. I think first at 35K then every 40K is the correct change interval.
