Severe engine problems- help
Recently my B8 A4 2.0tfsi CVT FWD with 96k miles on it has been having major issues with oil consumption and misfires. I replaced the plugs and coils recently. I also removed the intake manifold and cleaned the injectors and intake valves. I had major stalling and misfires which lead to the second replacing of the plugs and coils (first time was at 57k miles). I have just replaced them again at 96k miles.
Symptoms:
Car idles rough
At low RPM, and cruising at any speed the engine will lose power and sound as if trying to go up hill.
Spark plugs have excessive oil build up after 6 days use. (Diamond fire E3 plugs)
While monitoring data- engine calculated load increases. Engine will lose power and the ignition trimming will go as far as -30 degrees.
The MAF readings read normal, the short term fuel trim and long term trim are normal. The throttle position reads normal. The O2 S reads normal.
I am really stumped on this one. I have performed a vacuum leak check with smoke and also with brake parts cleaner, didn't find any obvious leaks.
Any help would be greatly appreciate before I spend the money on an 2011 engine.
It is possible the wrong plugs have caused detonation in there. A broken oil scraper ring can be the problem or leaky valve guides could also lead to oil fouling.
Use a boost gauge to ensure you are actually under boost, and don't have a waste gate dumping the intake air.
Remove the oil cap and inspect for spongy emulsion indicating a bad head gasket allowing antifreeze in the oil.
Make sure the coil packs and the bore they descend into are hospital clean. Make sure the connector retainer is properly fitted, and the contacts are clean.
Good luck.
Either your plugs aren't making good enough spark, or you have a serious problem with oil getting past the rings. There should also be gas getting past the rings, does the oil smell like gas at all?
