Default 2019/2020 Map Update

2019 Audi A4 here and several weeks ago I updated the navigation maps to the full 2019 release for North America via an SD Card.

Yesterday, my car was in the shop to fix a noise and when I got home I thought I’d check the firmware and software versions and low and behold, there are 2019/2020 maps available (for North America) for download via Audi Connect in the car! Needless to say, I started the OTA download for Illinois (1.2 GB).

Is this normal to have two releases available back to back?

The 2019 release was posted 6 months late; it should have been out in December...

Oakie doke.

Note: Connect website still lists 2019 as being the latest for North America.

I believe the same thing happened with 2019 - it was available on the in-car system in December, on schedule, but got posted to the web site a few weeks ago...

Do you or anyone else know what the OTA download limits are? I just got my 2019 A4 and I was able to download two 2019 regions (out of three for Illinois) and it wouldn’t let me download anymore OTA ever again. For 2019/2020, I was able to select and start the OTA download for all three regions for Illinois.

Note: I’m still using the six month Connect trial.

I certainly don't know - my car doesn't have any cellular/Audi connect hardware, which was only made available for Canadian-spec cars maybe... 3-6 months after my car was built. In theory maybe it can do wifi somehow, but I can't exactly reach my home wifi on the 3rd floor from a second-level-down parking garage...

SD cards it is for me.

I have a 2017 Allroad and never updated the maps. I was at mt dealer yesterday for the 30K maintenance and asked about the map updates and was told there is a charge of over $200.00. I said it's my understanding that the updates - at least a couple of them are for free. She said nope.
Do you need CONNECT in order to get those map updates?
If not, what's the procedure?

The map updates are free if you download them from the 'myAudi' web site onto an SD card, put it into the car, and update them yourself. The web site more or less calls itself 'Audi Connect' sometimes, but that is NOT the same Audi Connect as the subscription service that also goes by that name...

If we have the Audi Connect service, does the map update by itself, or do we actually need to manually update it?
