A4 Radar Detector Install - BlendMount + MirrorTap + Escort Max 360 (GPS Issue??)
All I thought I would share my very clean install of an Escort Max 360 using BlendMount and MirrorTap on my 2017 A4. The install was fairly straightforward; remove some trimming, tap into the yellow and brown wires in the mirror harness (Red to yellow and black to brown), clean up cabling and adjust mount so level. (Thanks to some help from this forum with other postings from @LarryV / @Magnit and others.)
Everything looks great and is rock solid with very minimal vibration vs. window suction mount. One oddity I have found is acquiring a GPS lock on the detector, it appears the mount/positioning under the mirror causes issues, when I remove and manually hold to window and/or use suction it acquires GPS very quickly. Has anyone else used a blendmount and seen similar issues in their A4, specifically with this detector or others?

Today, I get plenty of falses from other cars' sensors, but I have to leave K band enabled because many of the local town LEO's haven't yet upgraded to Ka.

I asked this question in the Escort Radar forums, and at the time no one was sure, they told me to find out and update the forum. If I ever get my A4 released out of the port, I will move my Max 365 from my 328i over to the A4. My 3 didn't have any radar-based sensors, but the A4 is loaded with them.

Since my initial install, I have contacted BlendMount about my GPS issue and they sent me a modified mount to test using a C7 Corvette arm to push out the detector further from under the mirror, and this is showing as a promising fix after two days of testing. Kudos to them for willing to send me another arm to test with. I'll post pictures shortly of the new setup.

I have yet to get any falses from my own vehicle, but I do get plenty of other falses as you mentioned and have to leave K on too.

- Which Blendmount part number did you buy for the B9? Was it the Aud-008?
- Did the mount you buy support the magnetic holder on the Max 360?
- Also, how is the extension working out for you?
- Where are the pics you promised

I have always wondered about getting a detector but I fear that there are too many false-positives along with the belief that such devices essentially tell you that you're getting a ticket. Would it not be better to use something like Waze which can (for the most part) warn you before you get into the radar/laser gun's range? Would love to hear from people who have extensive experience here.

Thanks for posting and I am also interested in installing a mirror tap for a clean-install dash cam. Seems like the hardest part is removing the trim/housing around the mirror. Are there instructions for this somewhere?
