Default Audi care on an A4 Quattro

I’m about to hit my 10K service on my 2018 A4. I had questions about the Audi care package so I called my local dealer to see if it’s worth it.

I came from a 2014 VW Passat with DSG duel clutch tranny. I did that 40K service myself on a Saturday afternoon.

Anyhow, I was told the Quattro tranny does not require maintenance. So no fluid change is done under Audi care. Also tire rotations are not included and is an additional $35.

Im wondering if it’s worth it. I did top side oil changes in my Passat that was stupid easy and looks like the A4 is just as easy. Other then a couple break flushes, and 4 oil and filter changes, what am I getting for the $900+ after taxes for the Audi care package?

Im not sure what break flushes go for at any good repair shop. But I can’t see it being over $100-$150.

Im not a gear head but I can do simple stuff. What do you think? Is it worth it to be lazy or should I just burn a weekend day once a year and do what I can myself and take it elsewhere to do what I can’t like tire rotations and brake flushes?

Audicare is worth it if you anticipate putting in the mileage to make it worth it and will actually hit all the service milestones that the Audicare package includes. If you only keep your car for a few years and don't drive much to where you won't hit the intervals then you are better off paying as you go.

The DSG on your A4 requires a flush + filter element change every 40k--whoever told you it doesn't is clearly misinformed as it's published right on Audi's website here--and that is not a cheap service. It is also much more difficult to DIY than it was on the Passat and is worth paying for as you need expensive single purpose tools for it in this car's application that probably aren't worth investing in unless you plan to drive this car to 200k and do the service 4-5 times, and even after that the filter and fluid themselves are not cheap. There are a couple threads on it if you search.

The best thing to do might be to call up your service department and ask them to email you an itemized quote with all the services that Audicare covers, and then quote you Audicare so you can compare your options side by side based on how much you plan to drive and how long you plan to keep the car. They will probably be happy to do so.

10K/1 year service should be free irrespective of Audi Care. Audicare is really needed BY 20k/2yr service(if one chooses to buy Audicare).

Rest good points & questions.

I forgot to mention that whether you like to jack your car up and get underneath it is up to you. Some people really enjoy wrenching and find it therapeutic. I always liked wrenching on my sportbike.

But I think the conversation changes when you need a $150-$200 single-purpose tool that you'll only need once every 2-3 years. Then again, you could always do everything except that service/those services yourself. But it's important to acknowledge that these vehicles are not indestructible Japanese econoboxes that you can maintain until the floorboards rust out using nothing more than a torque wrench, hammer, and a hundred dollar mechanic's metric socket set from Sears.

I asked my service advisor about the costs for 20k, 30k, 40k, and 50k service. She printed quotes for each of them with all four totaling over $1700. So for me, AudiCare was a no brainer.
The DSG fluid change at 40k is included in AudiCare, as are brake fluid flushes.
What isn't included are wear items such as brake pads and rotors.
Just had my 30k service done. Also paid them $30 for tire rotation while they were at it.

I have had my A4 for 2 years with only 13k miles on it. I just brought it in for my 2-year/20k service and purchased Audi Care at that time. I was told by my dealer that they do all the recommended service regardless of mileage if you hit the yearly anniversary. For this service they did the brake flush even though I was not at 20k. So essentially I will get all the services, even the spark plug change regardless of the total mileage. He said the services are based on mileage or annual, whichever comes first. He also confirmed that my next service (3-year/30k) would be either next August or 23K miles, whichever comes first. With that being said it is worth it for me.
