B9 2.0T Engine Reliability

Talking about engine, I noticed quite a bit of oil seepage in the valve cover area. Dealer says it’s normal. Wondering anyone else has it. No oil usage though as the seepage hasn’t turn into dripping yet.

That's good to hear. My B8 burns around 1 quart every 2500 miles, which isn't great, but is supposedly "in spec". After having the stage 1 fix applied in 2012, oil consumption decreased significantly, but with time it has gradually increased again. Based on multiple reports of catastrophic B9 3.0T failures popping up in the past few weeks, it appears that the 2.0T may be the best bet for long-term reliability this generation, unlike for the B8.

supposed to be normal, but I think someone told me thats how we get so much carbon on exhaust tips, but a catch can will fix it all.

I was cleaning the seepage yesterday and found the engine valve cover seal has soft brown gel kind sticky material coated at the seam. It can be scraped off if wipe on it a bit hard.

I have 2017 A4 with 12000 miles......I am about half quart low using MMI gauge ...last oil change was done at 6000 miles. I am an easy driver..some highway, some local.....I get around 24mpg average. I am not at all happy about the oil usage ...seems to me if i went to full 10,000 I would be a quart low. As this engine wears what is going to happen.....more oil usage for sure. Not making me happy so far with this engine. I love the car....best one ever, but this is not making me confident..this is first audi.

With regards to oil usage, I have 14k on my car. When I had the oil changed at 10k the MMI showed the oil level full. 4K after that oil change it is still full. Note that there was one time the MMI showed 2/3 full but then the next day it was full, I suspect there are cases where the MMI sensor is fooled.
I am pleasantly surprised that this car uses no oil. Every Audi I have ever owned consumed some oil ( and that is a lot of Audi’s as you can see from my signature). This is the first one that does not. It never really bothered me because I am old enough to have driven in a time when oil consumption was expected and you checked your oil regularly. Heck, when I was young the gas station attendants offered to check your oil at every fill up.
