Um I dont know, an Ice scraper??? Not trying to be a di@k but it takes ice off a window in seconds. Hell, I used a credit card one time(granted it wasnt "serious" ice).

Ice scrapers work a whole lot better if the 'bottom' of the ice, i.e. the side that's on the window, is at least a teeny bit warm...

True. What about that miracle scraper I keep seeing "as seen on TV" with the round bottom like a cone? Also, I was just thinking that on newer cars, A4 specially, we have laminated or double pane glass which cuts down on outside noise. I wonder how much that affects the ability for the heat to melt the ice vs. original single pane glass.

I've seen a recommendation to keep a spray bottle with a water/alcohol solution in the car and spray it on the windshield to quickly de-ice it. I don't have an opportunity to test it out here in San Diego, but it sounds a lot nicer than scraping hardened ice off of a windshield (as I used to do in Illinois). Sometimes it seemed like the ice was bonded to the windshield at a molecular level

UPDATE:
Fortunately the service technician was able to duplicate the issue exactly as I described it, when the temp was set to anything but "High" it would blow cool air..
The tech found that one of the coolant hoses was severely pinched, and he also noticed a slight coolant leak around the thermostat housing.. So he replaced the hose, installed a new thermostat, flushed and replaced the coolant and noweverything is working as it should.. Finally I am getting heat with the temp setting in the 70's ..
