Brake dust.
I have about 450 miles on my new Florret Silver A4. I’ve noticed a lot of brake dust early on covering the front rims (and some on the back). Tonight I notice the brake dust is also on the quarter panel and doors toward the bottom. I’ve never seen this happen before. My past new cars I’ve had mud flaps installed. I didn’t have it done with the A4. I wasn’t thrilled they weren’t body colored, only black.
Question: is the over abundance amount of brake dust happening because the brakes are brand new? Or is this an Audi trait? If so I think I’m going to need to invest in mud flaps to prevent it from getting on the car itself. I’m hoping this will become less as time goes on.

I have florret silver and have not noticed much break dust. The 19in wheels do get pretty dirty though. I wash every saturday morning. Hopefully the dust settles after a few more miles

I have 750 miles on my A4 and have quite a bit of brake dust on my wheels. Not so much on the paint, but wheels, yes. Sonax makes a great wheel cleaner, especially for brake dust. Sprays on green, turns dark red as it dissolves the dust. Rinses right off.

Welcome to the party. Went from two A6's. Dust all over the place. I eventually bought EBC ceramic and fixed the problem. New S4 seems to be the same. Audi being Audi...being VW always holds function over form. You do get absolutely stellar braking performance across the board (cold, hot, fast, slow, hard or soft braking.) In order to do that there must be a compromise. And the dust, and very low speed "chatter" is it.

My '10 A4 had so much brake dust I'm surprised there was anything left to stop the car. My '17 has had almost none, but I did apply this stuff called "Wipe New Brake Dust Defender" that I got on Amazon that puts a coating on the wheels that keeps dust from sticking. Whether it's that or that there's less dust anyway it's not an issue.

The amount of brake dust will not get reduced - something you might as well get used to If you drive for a few weeks without cleaning your wheels, you won't even see the true wheel color. Here are some shots of my wheels - the before is probably with 2 weeks of not washing and after is when I actually polished and sealed them (much easier to clean now).
