Dealer says I should have my "Fuel Injectors" cleaned
...but I think he meant to say "wallet." He suggested a $434 service to "clean the injectors" at 15-20k miles.
I asked him if Audi requires the service. "It's suggested to be done now." Does AUDI require the service or is this an additional service your service department features? "It is not listed on the maintenance schedule, but we strongly recommend it." I passed. My best guess is this is a can on BK44K getting dumped into the gas tank and a charge of $434. Was I wrong? |
it's not needed or part of the recommended service

VW/Audi have their own injector cleaner. You could try that if you believe the car needs it. Use of Top Tier gasoline could provide some benefit, too.

I wouldn’t do it absent any kind of symptom, like rough idle, hard starting, etc. |
Tim, yes. It's not an invasive cleaning.

Agree, total BS. Unnecessary unless symptoms present and assuming you haven't been filling up with substandard gasoline on a regular basis those injectors should not need any attention for a very long time. Simply a profit center for an already overpriced service outlet. My local dealer charges $170 for an oil and filter on my A6 when the OEM filter and two five quart jugs of VAG 502/505 Castrol can be sourced for between $60 and $70, all in. Obnoxious if you ask me. Audi care oil changes are done at dealer and my intermediate (every 5K) oil and filter changes are either DIY or indy does it for half what dealer charges using proper oil and OEM or Mann filter.

Up sell horse ****. Pure profit for the tech and dealer.

Yes, but BG44K is actually an approved 3rd party product many manufacturers suggest to use for injector cleaning. It has a greater benefit for cars that are not only DI. It's a top quality product, but still no necessary for a new car like this.
