Is the EA888 gen 3 much more reliable than gen 1?
So I used to post here years ago when I had a b8 2010 A4. EA888 engine, burned a lot of oil, blew an injector etc.
Anyhow I went away for a bit in BMW land, but today signed the paperwork on a 2017 A4 (originally was going to get a mercedes,.... but the A4 was just so so so much better for the money and well digital cockpit c'mon now).
I know the gen 2 engine was way way way more reliable as I've got friends who had 2011 + A4s that are fine.
Is the gen 3 reliable? Any problems. I already signed off on the car figuring I hadn't heard anything bad about the EA888 in a while but I'd appreciate any commentary .

I just missed out on the EA888 Gen 1 engine with my 2012 A4 (EA888 Gen 2) and I had NO issues with that engine or the car. No oil consumption issue, it was fixed. Engine light never came on. Had it for 4 1/2 years and 42000 miles.
This engine has been out in Europe for over a year and so far I have seen little to no issues. Yes, here and there, there will be people who run into a few issues early on but overall I think this engine is going to be very much enjoyable!
Also, welcome back to Audi. You will love the B9 model, leaps and bounds ahead of the B8.
