On delivery, the tire pressures on my car were set quite high, closer to the max load requirements posted on the door. So, on my next visit to the dealer I asked them to adjust the tires to the pressure listed on the door for a light load. I also mentioned that the pressure call out in the manual was different than what was on the door. I was then told that both pressure rating were incorrect for the S5 and that they would gladly adjust the pressure for a light load as per the latest info from Audi which was 33 lbs front and rear for the S5. In my case, the ride improved significantly although I like things on the firm side. Prior to the adjustment I would say the ride was approaching harsh and now it is much improved although not soft, just sporty.

Here's a data point to add. Over the summer I caught a nail in the side wall of one of my rear tires. I ended up replacing both tires on the axle with the same Pirelli model as what was on the car stock. The new tires now have 6K on them. I was running them in the summer at 32 (suggested rear axle normal load). When autumn temps hit I found the car rode like crap (less psi due to temperature changes). Aired up the tires to 36 on a 50 degree day and immediately noticed how much better it handled and felt...even my wife called it out as a passenger. Last week when I had my car in dealer shop for maintenance they measured the tread depth across the tires in three spots. My centers on both rear tire were higher than the edges, suggesting they were under-inflated for the summer months. The fronts had worn evenly. This tells me the 32 psi is too low for the rears, maybe 33-34 is a better number.

Default About tire pressure

I have been running at max load tire pressure and it picks up all the little imperfections on the road.

As a few above have mentioned the A4 manual states different measurements for different sizes and types.

all season 245/45/ R18 ---- front 32 / rear 32
high performance 245/40 R19 --- front 35 / rear 32

Im running 255/30/ R20 on my A4 Allroad and am interested in finding a better tire pressure.

Does anyone have a recommendation on pressure for ultra high performance summer 20"?

Here’s the tire pressure table out of my 2017 USA B9 manual, page 329.

It's interesting how the recommendation differs between the gasoline- and diesel-engined cars, but only for 17" and 19" wheels. And speaking of 19", those are some seriously high maximum load pressures!

I've been filling my 19's to 41/44 since I've owned the car (~5mo) not even considering that that's only the max load rating. I will be playing with pressures to see what works better. I do frequently drive my family around (4 pax, 2 kids though) so maybe such a high fill isn't necessary. I have Continental DWS 06 which are not bad but far from ideal (my CPO had them on the car from the dealer).

And slightly different numbers from another version of the manual. They do change their recommendations from time to time. I use them as a starting point and usually wind up just setting 35psi on all four corners of my allroad.

One thing for sure, if you are riding around not fully loaded and are running the maximum load tire pressures you are experiencing a rougher ride than you need to be.

The thing is, the "maximum load tire pressures" are the ones on the door jamb sticker. My tire shop, at least, takes the not-unreasonable view that cars should leave their shop with tires at the pressure on the door jamb sticker...
