Default Headlight replacement help

Hello everyone, these forums have always been a great help with all of my problems but today, I can’t seem to find some info I need. I have 17 A4(US) with the full led headlights, one was broken in a small accident and I ordered a used replacement on ebay. When I connect the replacement headlight assembly, the same lights on the dash(adaptive headlight malfunction, turn signal malfunction, dipped headlight malfunction) that were present with the broken headlight, continue to display even after clearing using obdeleven. I wouldn’t think there is any coding involved since the same parts are being swapped, but any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My service manual describes the B9 LED headlights. It covers such things as replacement of the B9 control modules and power output modules; but, very little about replacement of the actual lens assembly. It does reference this which is in the section covering the B9.5 LED headlights.

That is it. Not sure what is involved since the rest of the steps are embedded in the Vehicle Daignostic Tester

The headlight lens might have component protection and if that is the case only a dealership or someone with ODIS can change that. However, I thought component protection was only applied to modules and if your modules are original it is not clear that component protection is the problem. Component protection will usually pop up with a message indicating that this is a protected component.

The LED headlights do need to be parameterized; but, that takes place in the control module. If you are still using your original control module it seems like parameterization would not be the issue.

Thanks I appreciate the information. The larger module on the headlight assembly, which I believe is responsible for the low and high beam, was transferred to the replacement headlight assembly. The smaller module which I believe is responsible for all of the other functions, like the ones I am receiving faults for, was not salvageable but the replacement assembly came with one. If I am gathering this correctly, that smaller module would need parameterized? No component protection messages have displayed.

Small and large are rather subjective when you are dealing with pictures in the service manual.

13 is the control module (DRL, turn signals and headlamp hi/Lo)
14 is the headlamp power output module.

The service manual says you need to use the Replace Control Module function in ODIS for the Control Module replacement. Now this is where the labels on the parts and the wording in the service manual collide. In the section on replacing the Power Output Module they have this

It is not clear whether the term "control module" in "If replacing the control module" means the Control Module (part 13) if you happen to be replacing the Control Module at the same time as the Power Module or whether they have sloppy wording and used the term control module to describe the Power Module in this context. So, the Power Module may or may not need adaptation depending on how you interpret the language in the service manual.

If by smaller module you mean the Control Module and that module came with the headlight from the donor car then yes, you are going to have to go through the process of adapting it to your car. This almost 3 year old thread says that the work can only be done using ODIS. However, there is reference that OBDeleven may be developing this capability so you may need to check the OBDeleven web site and it may require the pro version of the application.
