My dealer said there is some difference in the transmission between the two. But everybody here says no difference. I don't know.

Transmission is the same. Maybe an updated TCU map? God knows.

I have a 2018 A4, and I haven't experienced any sort of hesitation you all may be describing. In fact, i felt that the low end torque helps create that sweeping acceleration I experience - even in Comfort mode (I drive mostly in Dynamic). While not high performance fast, it certainly is not a slouch off the line. And I have experienced lag in various cars in my past - and that sort of thing bugs the s___ outta me.

I posted to a different thread, and should have posted to this one. Having rented B9 Silvercars a few times per year since they came out, I believe the DSG throttle lag problem has gotten much better with the newer models. The throttle lag from a standstill felt dangerous to me in the early B9s, but the last few rentals I drove I didn't notice any lag. Even if the dealer insists there is no difference between the model years, maybe they could be convinced to install 2019 software in a 2017 model to see if it makes a difference.

@TitleistFan have you managed to fix the issue?

Sort of, I moved up to the S4. Much better power delivery. Just a touch of lag from a stop but none of the lag at highway speed that drove me crazy.

The only hesitation I experience is from the turbo lag and it is corrected by starting in Sport mode and shifting to Drive mode immediately after. There is absolutely no hesitation after that.

@TitleistFan i see, that's a hard fix hahaha!

@dseag2 I've tested another DSG car and same behavior as mine: when i want to pass a car and i kickdown/hard accelerate it lags considerably! (Because a upper gear was preselected and my scenario needed a downshift or at least to keep the current gear since I have enough RPM for torque)

Can you do a test someday, try to pass a car outside the city in D/S and observe the lag?

I totally agree! I had a v6 Tdi diesel that did the same thing! It was serious! Audi kept telling me I was hitting the brake! TOTAL BS! It was so bad I had to get rid of it? You never knew when I was going to quit an not accelerate, had some pretty hairy moments with that car.

good to know the reason for stalling hesitation! If often think these cars are too over engineered or the mechanics are too under trained.

Default 2020 same problem

I have a 2020 A4 premium plus and pretty much experience the same problem
Hesitation is inconsistent, some days not all other days couple times a day.
I have mentioned it to the dealer but have not really pursued it in depth.
My previous A4 2017 manual transmission never really experienced the problem
I know that when I test drove automatics as well as having service loaners the problem would occur Inconsistently similar to my current model
if there was any kind of resolution to this problem I would love to see it addressed.
It is the only real problem in a car that I really love !
