Long, hard drive

I just returned home yesterday after taking a 1,000-mile roundtrip drive. It was my second such trip in the last six months, and, both times, my A4 performed flawlessly.

Since I had the trunk filled with luggage, I set my tire pressure at 36 psi all around, which not only helped with handling, but produced some very good gas mileage as well. If I had any complaint, it's that I find the A4's seats to be too hard. After 10 hours of driving each way (including stops at several rest areas), my butt was sore. A friend of mine owns a late-model Volvo, and it's seats -- covered in buttery-soft leather -- are the most comfortable I've ever sat in. I wish Audi would offer seats like Volvo's.

I know many of you will say that the B9's seats are perfect, but I've let several friends sit in my car, and most have commented on how hard the seats are. My friend's wife, who owns a B8, hated my car's seats.

On an unrelated note, I wasn't feeling too well on my drive, and was fighting fatigue. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I kept several cans of Coca Cola in a cooler on my passenger seat, and the caffeine really did the trick. Like they say, "It's the real thing." :p

I keep my tire pressure at 36 psi all the time. Is that not the right pressure to keep it at? Any negatives if I have it at that pressure?

i keep mine at 35 front and 32 rear, unless im hauling more than 2 people and then go to 35 all around.

This thread has the correct tire pressure based on tire and loads.

Normal tire pressure for my car with A/S tires is 35 front, 32 rear. But I always run at one pound over in each tire for better handling and mileage, meaning 36/33. With a heavy load in the trunk and/or extra passengers, I use the recommended max. load range of 36/36.

If you use 36 in the rear all the time, you'll have a harsher ride and possibly wear out the center ribs of your rear tires faster.
