I have found since iOS 12 and enabling CarPlay and using that, I do not experience the issue anymore.. Not sure if either of those factors are related because I dont know if the problem existed in CarPlay in iOS 11 -- I didn't use it then.

I would not blame ios12. My album art works fine when I plug into my '17 Pacifica and also my aftermarket Alpine. In the Audi, the album art from the previous track is the one that shows up. You can even cycle back and forth between different songs, but it always shows one off from the one that is currently playing.

I have a similar issue - the various screens on the MMI (e.g. media, maps etc) show different tracks, and so does the VC.
I uploaded a video:
Curious if it actually works properly for anyone, dealer has already updated the software once and it didn't improve things.

That's a built-in feature designed to save you the embarrassment of displaying the fact that you're listening to Kelly Clarkson on the MMI screen.

Brand new 2019 S5, Iphone X with latest IOS12.2, using Apple Music, Streaming music NOT stored on my phone, using bluetooth for playback. Cannot select songs in an apple playlist. I can scroll through the list of songs, but selecting one just reverts the selection back to the currently playing song.

You will need to use CarPlay to do what you are trying to do.
