Is my motor mount shot?
1 Attachment(s)
Recently the ride has been rougher - especially when I come to a stop or accelerating. Would really appreciate input from you guys if my motor mount(s) are shot. It is a 2018 A4, in case it matters.
Thank you! |
How many miles? I had my 2017's engine mounts replaced just under 60K miles, right as my CPO was running out. I honestly can't say I noticed them being that bad, until I had them replaced. Car feels so much more responsive and tighter now. I believe they're fluid filled, so if you're willing, you could remove the cover underneath the car and look for leakage, indicating blown mounts. The movement from your video doesn't seem TOO excessive, but I'm not sure what's within spec in that regard.

You need to inspect the motor mounts for leaking fluid, my 2017 was leaking black oil from one mount.
My dealer gave me a FREE estimate with part numbers which I used to buy genuine Audi parts online MUCH cheaper. The new mounts are updated and must be replaced in pairs, see pictures of old vs new mounts. Mounts are "Active" and have an electrical connector that modifies the fluid dampening action. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...921dc43767.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...e9d7b17482.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...42b220efd6.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...6155285379.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...38159e86e9.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...28c54a0090.jpg |

[/QUOTE Not to derail this convo but, how was the DIY of doing the motor mounts? I think I'll need to handle these this year and the instructions from companies like 034 make it sounds not too bad, but then I've read from others that they "they were a PITA" or "my mechanic had a hard time". Curious as to the level of effort it took to swap. |
If you have the tools and have done this kind of job before it's easy.
|
Thank you everyone, I will have Dealer inspect this closely. A few months back, they said " we looked and don't see any leaks". But will ask them again.
I have about 48k miles on this car. |
Just had the job done on my 2018 with 62k miles. It is a common failure point on these cars. The fact that Audi produced a substantially redesigned replacement part points to that.

I didn't remove a transmission brace, that may have been to support the engine/trans from below. It's safer to support the thing from the top like I did. If the jack slips while working on the mounts it could be nasty.
