Default Navigation without the Audi connect plan

I have a 2017 A4 and the complimentary Connect Prime Plus service is about to end. I don't need my car to be a hot spot or stream music, etc., but do like the navigation system. My question, will I still have some type of navigation capability without subscribing to one of these plans that are not heap?

Yes, navigation itself will work just as it always has.

You will not get traffic updates, nor will you be able to use the Google voice search features but you will be able to use the POI database that's built in as well as just input addresses directly.

You will not be able to download new map updates over the air from the car but I was able to download them from the My Audi website itself, put them on a SD card and do the update that way (which seems to me to be the best way to do the update anyway, since the files are so large and AT&T is a lot slower than my home internet connection).

Are the updates free, or do they (over)charge you?

Per the Audi Connect Map Update -> More Information page:

"You can download and install the updates an unlimited number of times. The Map Update includes the first five updates to the version of the map installed at the factory. The updates are issued every six months."

So, my reading of that is you get the first 5 map versions they release after the one your car comes with. If you choose to skip a map update you just lose out -- if your car has Map version 1, and you skip 2,3,4, and 5 you can get version 6 (the 5th update since your car was built) but you're done after that.

Presumably you can pay for further updates but I've never seen a price quote...

Thanks. Judging from the fact that they charge $110 for two USB phone cables, they probably kill you on the map update as well.

The only "map updates" I can find on the My Audi web site is shown under "Audi Connect Services". So, even if I do not subscribe to the Audi Connect after the free six month subscription expires, I will still be able to download maps from this service?

As a previous member also noted, Audi Connect has no features I need to justify the subscription cost UNLESS the only alternative to its map updates service (for which update limitation is confusing) is more expensive than the subscription cost. I asked my Audi salesman what the cost would be to have the dealer update the map once a year and he said "...cost around $400 - $500..". This is absolutely ridiculous!!!

I like Google Maps available through Android Auto better than the Audi nav. If Waze gets added to Android Auto and works well, I will have a hard time using Audi nav, and will certainly not be interested in paying $500 a year for updates when Google Maps is always up to date.

does the Audi maps or the Google earth overlay show current traffic conditions I.e green for clear, red for congestion. In Google earth there is bunch of colors, it's hard to figure out. After Audi connect expires will it not work?
