resetting the S-tronic "learning"

Last week I was given a brand new 2018 A4 as a loaner, which I ended up having for 4 days. I noticed the trans in that car would hold lower gears longer and downshift more readily than my car does. I think my car originally behaved like the new loaner, and I'm guessing it learned other patterns in the months Ive been driving. Im wondering if there's a way to reset back to the original behavior, that's less intrusive than disconnecting the battery overnight, if that would even work.

How does one reset the throttle map?

With the car off, depress gas pedal all the way down. Then press the start button to turn on accessory power (without starting engine) while keeping your foot down, hold it there for about 10 seconds. Turn car off again by pressing start button. Start car as usual, and see if you notice a difference when you're in "D" mode.

^^^ Thanks! I'll give this a go but I have to ask, is "throttle map" the same thing as transmission shifting behavior? As for "D" mode well, I do not ever ever drive in D mode so hopefully the reset applies to S mode as well!

S tronic does not learn. The Tiptronic transmissions will adapt to driving style.

All I know is, the S-mode transmission behavior of my car has changed between when it was new and now. 4 days with a new (loaner) A4 that was functionally identical to my car highlighted the difference. It was clear that my transmission used to behave like the loaner car. So, what could have changed?

Possibly Audi have changed the TCU map on newer vehicles..

ODB11, select transmission/basic settings/reset transmission adaptive valves.

Very interesting thread. I have the same issue as the OP. And I know I’m not the only one who has noticed this difference in the way the DSG shifts in an older car compared to a brand new car. I’ve been searching for a way too until this thread. I’ll try the obd eleven method and see if that helps and update my findings here.

Be very careful with resetting the TCU using either odbeleven or vcds as there are prerequisites needed before doing this https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/dsg-reset.376798/

The software version between the transmissions is likely different based on the model year.
