Default Tappan Zee-less

Several weeks ago I updated my Audi maps to the latest 2018-19 version. Therefore, I was surprised this week that when driving over the new Tappan Zee bridge in New York, the view of the Google Earth on my MMI showed me driving over bridge pylons sticking up from the Hudson River, with no roadway on top of them. Somehow, I found it amusing ... and disconcerting at the same time -- kind of like walking down an escalator that's not moving.

The new Tappan Zee, officially named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, opened to traffic last year, and I would think that the completed bridge would have shown up in my Google Earth. I guess the wheels of progress turn more slowly than I thought.

This should have been the same before the map update since Google Earth overlay is not part of the map data. Maybe is was not as noticeable because the nav data did not know about that bridge either and did not route you to drive there.

There was a time when there was a lot of construction going on around O'Hare airport and while the nav said I'm off-road, Google Earth overlay showed the street that I was on. I suppose they both update their data on individual schedules and sometimes Google is faster and sometimes Audi/Navteq/etc. are faster.

Google Earth is merely an overlay - it is not the source data

It's still not showing as complete in Google Earth

I drive over it frequently. I wouldn't expect it to be caught up in the maps update for a while.
