Default Windshield washer fluids

I got my empty washer washer fluid warning this morning and was doing some research on what to fill my washer fluid reservoir with. It looks like rain-x causes issues with sensors? what are you guys using for your washer fluids? I'm looking for something that will work in toronto where the weather can get down to -40C with windchills.

I think most any fluid - except those like rain-x that I hear can clog things up would work. I would think that the ww fluids available in your area would work at those temps. All else fails - and it shouldn't, get a gallon from Audi.

That's correct, the RainX products coat the sensor.

Vehicles don't see windchill, humans and animals do.

Nextzett has their AntiFrost product, that covers down to -60C at 100% strength, which you aren't going to be seeing in Toronto.

Anti-Frost Windshield Washer Fluid

1 liter Anti-Frost (Pure) = -76 F (-60 C)
1 liter Anti-Frost + 1 liter water = 2 liters (.50 gallons): -6 F (-21 C)
1 liter Anti-Frost + 2 liters water = 3 liters (.80 gallons): 14 F (-10 C)
1 liter Anti-Frost + 3 liters water = 4 liters (1 gallon): 20 F (-7 C)

I'm also in Ontario, a few hours north of Toronto and use the Laurentide -45c fluid from Costco. Comes in a 4 pack for about $12 and comes on sale even less sometimes. Never had a problem with it all winter.

Is there something unique about Audi that makes RainX problematic? I've been using their fluid for probably 15 years with no issues in any car. I'm 6mo into owning my B9 and if there's something I should know.....

Thanks! Oddly the classaction suit is not very well placed in a search for "rain-x audi" .. it is there but very low on the first page. Great info.

You should use any "regular" fluids - Canadian tire blue or green, Costco's green "laurentide" and stuff from walmart, loblaws, etc. (I would stay away from the specialized products like rain x, etc. that have special additives and high alcohol content to melt the ice faster).
